Celebration of Music - Talent Search

Sarah Karras is a 14 year old girl with an undeniable passion for music. She lives in Macomb, Michigan where she is an eighth grader at Iroquois Middle School. Along with her love for singing Sarah enjoys playing the piano and guitar. The Macomb community has provided Sarah with many great opportunities to foster her creativity and grow as an musical artist and performer. It all started back when Sarah was four years old and attended a Daddy Daughter dance. Sarah asked her father if she could sing "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus to the crowd. That performance sparked the start of Sarah's strong love of music. Sarah started taking piano lessons in first grade and joined the local choir in second grade. She also studied dance for six years with a main focus on hip-hop and lyrical styles. During the summer Sarah participates in additional choir, show choir and acting workshops developing new skills while making new friends. Sarah has been taking private voice lessons and attending competitions since fourth grade. When Sarah went to middle school she joined the choir and auditioned and performed solos singing songs like "Imagine" by John Lennon and "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley. At twelve Sarah picked up the guitar and became self taught with the help of YouTube. The guitar really helped Sarah to experiment with different music genres while providing her a valuable tool for songwriting. Sarah loves to create original songs on both the piano and guitar which she performs along with covers at local open-mic nights and coffee houses. More than anything Sarah has unconditional support from her parents but her father and her have a special bond when it comes to music. She calls him her "#1 fan" and he is always listening to her practice and perform. Sarah's musical influences include Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, Sara Bareilles and Billie Elish. Besides music, Sarah loves to read books, write stories, hang out with her friends and family and play with her dog Rosie. She is so grateful to have this opportunity to be involved in the Celebration of Music and wishes everyone the best of luck!
