Celebration of Music is a talent search that showcases the best young musical talent across America. Singers, musicians, bands, and dancers between the ages of 5 and 25 are all encouraged to enter in their city by submitting an audition tape.
The Celebration of Music concept was inspired by Ethan Bortnick and his desire to give young musicians the same opportunities PBS afforded him.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Here are some frequently asked questions about the overall competition and show process to help get you better prepared. However, please be away that this is ONLY a general guideline, so if you have specific questions, please contact our team member that is your liaison.
Celebration of Music is a brand new talent series that showcases and celebrates the best young musical talent in America today.
It’s a talent-search series that focuses on music and the arts above all else – not the drama that usually comes with other reality/competition-based shows.
Anyone between the ages of 5-25.
Any Music or Music based acts. Examples are as follows: Musicians, Singers, Dancers, Dance Groups, Choirs, Bands, Duets, Orchestras, Soloists, Acapella groups and all music or music related acts.
There are 2 winners in each city:
Peoples Choice: This Winner is decided based on the # of votes they receive.
Producers Choice: This Winner is decided based on the Live Performance at the local concert event. The producers watch the event Live (Streamed Live to them).
In some cases, there may only be 1 winner if the producers pick the same winner as the people’s choice winner. The producers do not know how many votes a particular contestant receives, so if they pick the same contestant who is the voters choice, then their will only be 1 winner in that city.
The winner of each show will also receive an invitation to join us for our Los Angeles Celebration of Music Nationally Distributed Television Show.
This version of the show will be taped with Ethan Bortnick and distributed and offered Nationally to all PBS Stations across the country! The show will also be offered to International TV broadcasts and also online worldwide. This will give you an opportunity to be part of a TV show that will be seen by millions.
The Nationally Distributed TV Show itself is not a competition. It is a music/variety show that celebrates Music and arts. So, if you win your local event, that is the only time there is a competition. Once you win once, that’s it.
Winners will also be considered for a record distribution deal with Sun and Sky Records and will be also considered for a possible Management deal. Our team will also send all winners information to select agents and Managers in the Entertainment business.
If you are chosen to participate in your local city, then you will perform 1 performance on stage.
You will also be required to provide us with a talent release form (which we will provide), 1 photo, 1 video and a biography, which we will use to promote your performance.
Anything - so long as it isn’t dangerous or illegal!
The performance can not exceed 5 minutes total.
This is a family-friendly event and absolutely no profanity and adult content can be performed. This will result in an immediate disqualification.
No – our team will handle all of the rights on our end. All we need from you is your performance!
This is your choice.
We have very strict rules about about performers under 18 years of age. ALL minors must have one (1) parent or legal guardian present at all times. If the parent or legal guardian cannot attend the concert, the minor must be accompanied by a stand-in guardian of their choosing – typically a close family friend, relative, or teacher/coach.
To nominate a stand-in guardian, please fill out the Guardianship section of your Contestant Release supplied in the Welcome Email, have it notarized, and email or fax it to us before the concert date. Any minor without a notarized Guardianship form will sadly NOT be allowed to appear.
If you have any further questions about this at all, please contact your liaising producer.
If you’re travelling with a group with minors, EACH minor must have one (1) parent or legal guardian present. However, if certain parents or guardians cannot attend, and another parent or guardian is willing to take over guardianship of the minor(s), then there can be a one (1) adult to four (4) minor ratio.
If the contestant is under 18 years old, they must have1 Guardian backstage. However, all contestants who are 18 or over can not have anyone else backstage. However, friends and family can buy tickets to the event and there will be plenty of Opportunities to see them during the event.
Absolutely! We love having a packed audience of support, so the more the merrier. Bring the whole neighbourhood!
They will however have to purchase tickets, and these will be available through both the main Celebration of Music website and your individual page on our website.
No!. Contestants do not need to purchase tickets. However, contestants may buy tickets if they want to watch the entire event from the seats. We do not require any contestants to pay any money to be a part of this event and do not require tickets to be purchased. However, in many cases contestants want to sit with their friends and family, so they can (if they want) buy a ticket.
When it’s their turn to perform, then they will be called up 15 minutes before their performance so they have plenty of time to go backstage,
If a contestant does not purchase a ticket, they (most likely) will not hear or see the event (except for their performance).
Yes, in order to watch you from the seats in the theater, all family members will also need to purchase tickets.
Yes, in most cities there are Group Rates that have significant discounts. Contact Groups@sunandskyentertainment.com and they will provide you with your cities ticket rates for groups.
Possibly! However, you’ll need approval from your liaising producer first, and explain why the change is needed (for instance, in case of sickness, unavailability, new recruitment, etc.).
YES. We will have a professional sound system, but anything you may need for your performance, please bring with you to the event.
ALL relevant props, equipment, instruments, stands, and (if needed) costume – basically anything else you could possibly need for your act.
You should also bring along snacks for the day and a packed lunch, as well as any other food items if you have certain dietary requirements!
It’s recommended that you also bring along something to keep busy with during the set up process when you’re not required (such as iPads, Kindles, Switches, DSes, magazines, books, etc).
No. Our team recommends you eat beforehand.
Until you’ve officially been announced as a contestant, you’re not allowed to inform ANYONE outside of your family/friends that you’ve been chosen. This includes talking to the press, posting on social media, sharing photos, emails, documentation, etc.
This restriction also applies even if the media approaches you first. (We know it’s tempting)
The winner of your competition will be announced at the end of the event. (After everyone performs)
We hope this helps answer your questions! As always, our team is here to advise and support you as best we can within the guidelines of the competition. Please feel free to reach out at any time if you have any further questions!
