Mary Clare

Howdy! My name is Mary Clare, and I was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. My family relocated to Sherman, Texas in 2010. I have a big sister, a little sister, and two little dogs! When I’m not in school or at home, you’ll find me at Shawnda Rains Studios in Denison, Texas, where I take all of my vocal, piano, and dance lessons. It’s my home away from home!

My parents have always kept my sisters and I active. I started in gymnastics and ballet classes when I was four, and then started playing soccer and basketball.I love archery, painting, crafts, and much to my mother’s dismay I love to make slime! I’ve also been a part of our town’s local theater workshops. I love anything creative and fun!

If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you that I was singing before I was walking or talking. She sang “Amazing Grace” to me every night when she rocked me before I went to bed, and I had listened to the song so many times that I would sing it for anyone who would listen to me by the time I was two years old! That was the first time I performed in front a group of family and friends, and although I was too young to remember, my mom told me that I did not shy away from the camera!

My first debut on a real stage was at the Rialto Theater in Denison, Texas, when I was seven years old. Since then I have performed on that stage more times than I can remember! Last spring I won my District 4-H’s Share the Fun Contest in my age division, and was a finalist in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Showcasethis past summer. I was also one of the youngest Texas 4-H members selected to sing the National Anthem at the Texas 4-H Round Up in College Station, Texas. I had an amazing opportunity to travel with Shawnda Rains Entertainment Group this past summer to Branson, Missouri, where I performed as a soloist and with my troupe on several stages throughout Branson.

I’m still a young girl, and I’m very blessed to have such a busy life! One thing I know for sure is that I love to perform and I am passionate about singing! I know that God has given me a gift, and I want to challenge myself and learn as much as I can to honor Him and the blessings He has given me! I am very grateful for my parents, my sisters, my music teachers, family and friends for all of their support and encouragement. Being selected as a finalist for the Celebration of Music is quite an honor, and I’m so thankful for this opportunity! I grew up watching lots of shows on PBS when I was younger (Wild Kratts, Word Girl, Super WHY!, to name a few) and to perform on a show on PBS would be absolutely amazing!
