Lashay Akins

Hello! My name is LaShay Danielle Nicole Akins. I am eleven years of age. My mother is Barbra Akins. However, me and my sister, BreAyla, live with our meme, Gloria Barrow. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Upon 5th grade graduation, Ryan Elementary School recognized me as a lifer, attending that school from Pre-K through 5th grade. I will begin 6th grade at Mckinley Middle Academic Magnet fall of 2019. During my elementary experience, I have received many awards, ribbons, certificates and money for academics, visual and performing arts (Drama and Kid’s Orchestra/Violin). I really enjoy drawing and performing. In 2018, as chosen by the DeBose Fine Arts Festival, my 3rd place contemporary art piece was displayed in our main library during the month of February. Several of my performances that gain recognition was: One Fish in the Cat in The Hat, Alice and The Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland and 1st place monologue of Cruella deVil from 101 Dalmatians. Our Drama Team also performed on various stages, like the Independence Theater, the Lincoln Theater, Baton Rouge Community College Black History Presentation. My Drama Instructor, Ms. Candance Thomas and my Art Instructor, Mrs. Katherine Sharp were great in bringing out my gifts. I enjoy watching Cup Cake Wars, Kid’s Baking Championship, anything with making slime, Disney channel, some comedies and action movies and some Sci/Fi.

I also enjoy reading, visiting the area Plantation homes and eating out. My favorite foods are honey BBQ wings, mashed potato/baked beans, broccoli, fried fish/shrimp, lemonade, iced tea, so many other foods.

I am an active member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Albert L. Turner, Sr. My participation includes the choir, liturgical dance, Sunday School and Bible Study. During the 2016 Louisiana State Baptist Youth Convention, I was crowned the Rosebud Queen. In another pageant, Exquisite Beauty, I won Miss Jr. Pre-teen Louisiana Beauty in 2017. In May, 2019, I was recognized by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority as one of the top 50 Scholars in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

I am really looking forward to this next step as a performer. One day to hear that old saying “Break A Leg”.
