Josephus Gordon

Greetings, my name is Josephus Gordon. I’m currently a full-time independent student at Westchester Community College pursuing a dual degree in foreign relations and diplomacy with a concentration in the Russian language. Growing up in a small town in upstate New York with a close nit family had many advantages however it also made me curious about places outside of my hometown. I find meeting new people from different walks of life and exploring various cultures fascinating. Engaging with diverse groups of people inspires me because it triggers growth and development. I’m very passionate about the arts mainly because it provides a platform for me to be openly expressive and learn from creative people. Singing, dancing and acting are my strengths in this space and I often spend some of my free time practicing to strengthen my technique. What drives me as a ambitious performer and worker is the idea of working with and learning from a diverse group of seasoned professionals and students while doing something that I love.

My performing arts journey began at a summer theater intensive that I participated in while in high school. That experience empowered me to take my interest in the performing arts to the next level. Upon completion of the program, it was apparent to me that I needed to take advantage of every opportunity to learn more about the arts and invest significant time in developing my craft. I’ve made it a priority to audition for various auditions and I’ve participated in new dance and singing opportunities in New York City. Through each experience I’ve grown tremendously. While these experiences have been extremely rewarding, I could benefit from more broadening opportunities. As a young independent full-time student, securing opportunities that would help to amplify my technique has been challenging from a financial perspective. The income that I earn from my part-time job is used to offset my living and education expenses.

My aspirations as a performing artistare to improve my acting skills, learn different styles of dance and enhance my confidence as a performer. I yearn to fully realize my strengths and weaknesses in those areas so that I can polish my craft. I am very proud of my performing arts accomplishments so far. My devotion to the arts and passion for learning from diverse groups of people makes me a prime candidate for this opportunity and I am truly honored to perform for Celebration of Music this year. Thank you for your consideration.
