Celebration of Music - Talent Search

Hello, my name is Hunter Widvey and I am 19 years old. I am so excited to have this opportunity to share my talent with you all! I have been singing for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I enjoyed putting on “concerts” for my relatives at family gatherings. In 2013, I competed at Black Hills Idol and won the Jr. Division. I later competed in a regional Country Showdown competition and became a finalist. When I was in high school, I loved participating in musicals where I was the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jasmine in Aladdin. I am currently attending Augustana University and am a double major in Chemistry and Government/International Affairs hoping to become a pediatric oncologist. When I’m not studying, I love singing in choir and studying classical vocal music. In 2016, I was Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen (MSDOTeen) and had the opportunity to compete at a national level where I sang a German art song. My year as MSDOTeen gave me the opportunity to meet many amazing South Dakotans and helped me better appreciate all that our state has to offer. In 2017, I was invited back to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant to sing the National Anthem. I also enjoy singing the National Anthem at local sporting events throughout South Dakota. Besides singing, I love spending time outdoors. Although I love the Black Hills, I also really enjoy walking through the open prairies hunting with my father. Other outdoor hobbies that I enjoy are dinosaur bone hunting, fishing, hiking, and gold panning. In high school, I was a public forum debater and I loved running in track and cross country. I was a competitive figure skater for many years of my life and I now enjoy teaching skating lessons to others while I am attending college. Many of my friends would say that I enjoy being busy and that I am very outgoing! I hope you all see what I have to offer and vote for me to represent South Dakota!
