Celebration of Music - Talent Search

Alex Clevenger is a 25 year old from Rapid City, SD. She was born in Sheridan, WY and lived there for 22 years before moving to Rapid City. In 2015, she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts, with a focus on music, from Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY. Alex comes from a musical family in which her mother plays piano, her father played the trumpet, and her brother sings and plays guitar.

Due to her love of music, Alex has been singing and performing since the age of 3 when she sang a solo in a Christmas program at her family’s church. When she was 6 years old, Alex had her first major musical and acting performance when she played the part of Gretel in the Sheridan High School musical “The Sound of Music”. Since then, she has acted and sang in several plays and musicals including “Aladdin Jr.”, “Cinderella”, “Annie”, and more. Alex has been singing since she was very small and when she was older, she was selected to perform with the Children’s Chorale in Sheridan, WY where she performed until the 8th grade. It was here where she began to learn better singing techniques. Alex began playing the violin when she was 6 years old, after joining orchestra class at her elementary school, and started learning to play the piano when she was 7 years old. She continued to play in the orchestra throughout middle school. In high school, Alex continued her orchestra classes and was able to participate in the school Baroque Orchestra. In addition to singing in a talent show at her elementary school during her fifth-grade year, Alex also participated in a high school talent show where she showed off her singing talents. Alex learned to play the clarinet, and various percussion instruments after joining the Sheridan High School band and Percussion classes her Junior year of high school. She continued playing percussion throughout her years of education at Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY where she was the Principal Percussionist for two years.

Alex is currently taking voice lessons from Dayna Willcuts, a local voice and piano teacher in Rapid City, SD. With Dayna’s guidance, Alex has begun performing cover songs on YouTube.

Alex is very excited about the opportunity to perform as part of the Celebration of Music talent search.
