Mason Yeoh

Mason Yeoh is 13 years old and lives in Fairfield, Connecticut. He is home schooled.

Mason has been playing the piano for seven years, starting at six years old, and the violin for four years, starting at nine years old. He has also been playing the trumpet for one year. For piano, he is coached by Ms. Kathy Bakes, a Steinway Artist.

In 2017, Mason won Third Place in the International Little Mozart Piano Competition, drawing from a global pool of talent, and he is participating in this year’s competition. Mason has also submitted his entry for the Steinway competition. Mason has participated in the Young Musicians Festival of Connecticut as a pianist for two years, earning two Gold certificates. Mason is also an award recipient for two years from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

In addition to classical music, Mason is a jazz musician. His favorite artists include Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis. Mason recently met Chris Botti, the famous jazz trumpeter, and Mason had his trumpet autographed by Mr. Botti.

Mason speaks several languages, including French and Spanish, and attends the Chinese Language School of Connecticut. Mason has traveled to Paris, France, where he studied French language and culture. Mason attended an ornithology class in Ithaca, New York at the Cornell University campus. His favorite author is E.B. White.

Mason is also an artist, sketching, drawing and painting. Mason has been taking art classes at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York City. Mason has had a painting in acrylics and a wooden sculpture displayed at the MoMA.

Mason’s hobbies include horse riding and swimming, and he loves his French Bulldog, Lucy. Mason enjoys digital media creation using visual programming languages, including Scratch. Masons enjoys good food and likes cooking. He also likes camping, elevators, aircraft, trains and automobiles. Mason has recently developed an interest in sailing. This summer, he intends to journey across America by train.
