Lillian Cazabon

Hi my name is Lillian “Lilly” Marta Cazabon. I am fourteen years old and I love singing and performing. I have been singing since I could talk. I have had many opportunities to share my talent with friends and family performing in school and local church talent shows, musicals and singing competitions. I currently take vocal lessons from Mrs. Bonnie Knowles. I have been with Mrs. Bonnie since I was 8 years old. I owe her a great deal for helping me learn the proper ways of breathing and improving my singing techniques.

In addition, I have been part of the Atonement Lutheran School choir for the past 4 years. As part of the choir, I have been selected to perform as Arlene Abernathy in Guys and Dolls, Marian Paroo in The Music Man, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. This year I will be playing the role of the Sour Kangaroo in Seussical.

I also perform in Capricious, a local family and friend theater group. All of our plays have fun with names and characters. One year was “A Bad Heir Day.” I played Pebble Baby, alongside my sisters Venice Baby and Malibu Baby. The next year I was Rosetta in “Sofa So Good.” In this one I got to sing a spinoff of Hello Dolly called Goodbye Dolly. The most recent was my role as Barbra Joan (and ode to Barbara Streisand) in “It Had To Be Hue” singing “Puzzles, people who love puzzles”. This summer my very talented Uncle Dennis will be writing and directing a new play. I can’t wait to see what part he has in store for me!

I am also an active member of the Louisiana Federation of Music Club. This competition is made up of two categories (art song and musical theater). I compete with kids from all over the state and have been fortunate to have won both divisions in my group 4 years in a row!

One of my greatest achievements so far, has been when I was selected to sing with The Honors Performance Series choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City. I performed in front of a packed house and it is something that I will never forget.

My musical influence definitely comes from my family. At every family get together we always end up singing songs around the piano. My parents and grandparents are my biggest supporters. They shower me with love in everything I do. I can definitely see the influences on both sides. My Abuela loves to play piano and teaches me some fun songs. My Nana has also been a huge influence. Ever since I can remember, she has driven around listening to movie classic musicals and soundtracks. She was always teaching me the words and lines to memorize. Now I know why I love to sing and listen to all the classics. My Pawpaw also loves the classics. We would sit for hours watching Music Man, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady and The Wizard of Oz and more. He helps me rehearse for all of my auditions and even helped create the sets on my school plays.

I was really happy to hear that I was chosen to be a contestant on the New Orleans Celebration of Music competition. We have been preparing all of the videos and photographs to share.

This is my story. Every new chapter seems to get better each day. My advice to young musicians everywhere is to sing your way through every day. Like my music teacher has told me over and over, besides “breathe Lilly and open your mouth”, “without music life would B b (B flat)!”
