Jianna Eugenio

Hello everyone! My name is Jianna Eugenio, I am 20 years old, and I live in Elk Grove, California. I am blessed with two amazing parents and two older brothers who unconditionally love and support me in all that I am and strive to do in life. All that I am, it is because of my Mom, Dad, and my two older brothers Jonathan and Brian. I am filled with so much gratitude and love to be blessed with my family who encourage me to be who I am, and to be courageous in pursuing my goals and dreams.

All my life I have always had a passion for the arts. From drawing and painting, to dancing and singing, I find so much joy in all things creative. My parents placed me in dance lessons when I was 3, and I taught myself to draw ever since I was inspired by my older brother who also loved to draw when I was a little girl.

Most of all, music has always been a big part of my life and who I have come to be. Since I can remember, I always loved singing. When I was a little girl, starting around 3 years old, I would sing along in church and sing karaoke with my Dad. I would always love to sing Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” and Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All.” During my time in elementary, I was proactive in our school choir, and sang at the talent shows. At age 10, my Dad taught me the guitar and around age 12 I taught myself to play the piano by ear. At age 13, I was a part of a non-profit theatrical ensemble in my city, where we showcased the beauty of our Filipino culture through song and dance. Around this same time, I also began to post covers on YouTube, and to this day I still do.

Today, I play guitar and help lead my church’s choir, and perform at benefit concerts at my university, such as the time where we fundraised for a non-profit organization that helps communities in the Philippines that were devastated by the recent typhoon, and raised awareness about human trafficking. And lastly, for the first time in my life, I am now receiving vocal lessons, where I am learning so much more about singing than ever before.

I chose this song for my performance, “Reflection,” by Christina Aguilera, because I believe it reflects my on-going journey towards embracing the beauty in all that I am and who I am, to live my life courageously in pursuing my dreams and to longer let fear dictate my story. I hope that my performance and story resonates or even inspires anyone to make the decision to no longer let fear drive their lives, but rather live boldly in showcasing the world their uniqueness that only they can bring.

This is my first time ever competing in a music competition, or even being on a show for that matter. So I am very thankful for this opportunity, and am looking forward to what this journey has in store!
