Jamie Estelle Planchard

Jamie Planchard is 17 years old, lives in Mandeville, Louisiana, and is a Junior at Fontainebleau High School. She is involved in her school’s Talented Music program, she is one of two vocalists in the school’s Jazz Ensemble, and was involved in her school’s choir. She has always loved to sing, but she realized that she has a gift around age 10. Since then, she has made an effort to get involved in as much as she can handle music-wise. Her parents, Jim and Dinah Planchard, have always supported her and she wouldn’t be where she is without them. Her brother passed away when she was 13 years old. He was always very supportive of her, and when she feels like giving up, she remembers that he would encourage her to keep going, along with her parents. She has been taking voice lessons from age 10 to now with Carolyn Russell at the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts School (LAAPA). Through Carolyn and LAAPA, she has been offered many opportunities singing at Church of the King in Mandeville and at the two recitals that LAAPA holds annually. It was through LAAPA that she was able to audition for Celebration of music. She has also been offered many opportunities through her Talented Music teacher Dr. Dana Guidroz, her Jazz Band director Lee Hicks, and her Choir director Ashley Lemmler. Through choir, she was able to be in Allstate Choir, and through the Jazz Band, she was able to participate in Allstate Jazz Band. She is involved in a jazz combo that she has formed with some of her friends outside of school. They have had many great experiences performing at different places. The place that they have performed at the most is Fulco’s Bar and Seafood in Metairie. Jamie has also been a singer for Covenant Church in Covington since she was 13. Through church, she has felt a calling to worship God, has met many wonderful people, and has grown stronger in her relationship with the Lord. Throughout the 7-8 years Jamie has spent singing, she has really grown as a performer and vocalist. She has learned a lot from her church, from local performers that she has the privilege to go see, and from her teachers- Lee Hicks, Dana Guidroz, and Carolyn Russell. Her main goals as a musician are to express herself, inspire others to do good, and to bring people to God. She has definitely been through rough times with music, but she knows that she has a gift that she will never let go to waste.
