Claira Williams

Hi! My name is Claira Williams. I am 12 years old and in the seventh grade. I live in Saint Augustine, FL, with my mom, dad, and 15 year old brother and sister. I think it is safe to say that I have always loved music and performing. My brother and sister are super athletic and that was never me. I was born with something called a tethered spinal cord and as a result didn't have as much natural coordination or core strength. It also caused a lot of back and leg pain, so I didn't sleep well for the first couple years of my life. My mom and dad spent many hours rocking me in the middle of the night, singing along to music. My mom said my favorite song was "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles, and it always calmed me down, so that's a pretty special song to us. I had surgery to release my tethered spinal cord when I was 18 months old, and even though I still go to follow up appointments every year, I am doing great! I really think that music and performing has been a huge part of the healing process for me. It's a way to dive deep into your feelings, build confidence, improve strength and coordination, and bring a meaningful experience to others all at the same time. I also love to make people laugh. I make up scenes and songs to remember my homework, mimic random sounds and actions, and have conversations with my family in as many accents as I can figure out. They try to keep a straight face, but I always win. Some of my other favorite things to do are hang out with my friends and play with my Mini Labradoodle, Lucy. She looks just like me with her crazy, red hair and light eyes. My brother and sister are twins, and I've always wished that I had one, and now I do. Lucy and I hang out together all the time-playing, doing weird things, and taking naps. I also love to be social and try new things. Most of my family is more introverted than me, so sometimes I like to think I was meant to come along and help push them out of their comfort zones. They usually don't mind, but sometimes I tell them "You've just gotta put yourself out there." I guess now it’s my turn to put myself out there. I'm really excited for the opportunity to be a part of this competition. I am ready and grateful for the challenge, and I hope you enjoy my page. Thank you for your vote!
