Celebration of Music - Talent Search

Aspen’s love for music began when she was a toddler banging on her toy instruments, babbling along to the music. Her passion for performing began in earnest at 6 years old when she landed her first role as Gretl in a local production of The Sound of Music. Now at 13 years old, she performs regularly as both an actress and a singer/songwriter. Aspen has been in numerous musicals and theatrical performances, including three years of professional performances in A Christmas Carol at Meadowbrook Theatre. She has also performed in several operas and operettas at the Detroit Opera House as a member of the Michigan Opera Theater Children’s Chorus. She spent the last two summers studying Shakespeare at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and has taken dance for ten years. As Aspen’s musical interests broadened, she taught herself to play the ukulele and started writing her own songs. A few years ago, Aspen played for tips during an art festival and saved enough money to buy her beloved acoustic guitar. Aspen currently plays in a rock band at Michigan Rock School in Milford and was recently awarded an Elyce Fishman Scholarship from the Wheatland Music Organization to study mandolin, slide guitar and traditional music from Bruce Ling. This September she will be performing at the Wheatland Music Festival and Earthworks Harvest Gathering. You may also see Aspen in various TV commercials and WKAR’s PBS science show Curious Kids. Being a high achieving student who loves nature and backpacking, she plans to hike the Appalachian Trail after High School. Aspen has a strong desire to connect with her audience when performing and whole heartedly believes that music can heal the world.
