Amanda Defuria

My name Amanda DeFuria , I am 13 years old, turning 14 on October 7, 2018! I am a resident of Livingston, NJ. I am going into my first year of high school this year. I am an Honor Roll student, and National Junior arts Society member as well. I am an aspiring singer/songwriter/actress. I began having an interest in singing, and acting when I was two, performing shows for my family and from there it blossomed. I officially started singing when I was seven, when I joined a Musical Theatre Conservatory Group. I performed at various cabarets, like the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC, and other off Broadway venues.

I started to take vocal lessons, at age 8., and where I began to write my own songs. I would describe my songwriting style to be a mix of music, pop, inspirational, country, and R&B. I think my music reaches out to multi -age audiences.

I have been lucky enough to have been selected to be in many performances. I am a recent winner of The Featured International Singing Competition, and I was selected to be in PCI’s Up and Coming Young Artist program,. I have had the great opportunity to be asked to sing at iconic places like the Cutting Room, The Duplex, and Metropolitan Room in NYC. I am influenced more by genres of music, than a particular artist I enjoy listening to many different types of music. I am lucky enough to have been exposed to many types through my family and coaches. I lean more towards the genres of pop, and R&B, Christian, and a little country. but I am always open to listening and learning more.

My music has helped me through some very rough times in my life. In middle school. I was bullied, physically, mentally,, and verbally. The hardest part for me to grasp is that the bullies were aided by a teacher. My family and I decided it would be best if I left the school. I put my emotions onto paper, which became songs, This process helped me heal, emotionally, and it helped me through a very dark period in my life. I really hope my songs will do the same for others who are victims of the abuse, whether it be physical, mental, or verbal. I hope they can see that they can beat this too. I want to become a role model for people and show and their worth is not based on a person or group but themselves and their strengths.

It is really important to be grateful for what you have, strong in faith, and to give back to communities. I like to volunteer at animal rescues and donate my time by singing at fundraisers, for various charities. I am blessed to have the support of my family, friends, my vocal coach, and mentor Tony. They have always supported me, believed in me, and encouraged me to go where my dreams take me. I believe that hard work and dedication to your dreams gets you ahead in the end. I like to end with two quotes that I like “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” - Pele, and “ Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” - Gail Devers
