Alyson Hanzal

Music has always been one of my biggest passions. The reason I love music is that it has the power to set and change mood, it is expressive, personal and is for everyone. Music has surrounded me since I was a young kid and followed me throughout my life. Whether I was jamming to my favorite songs in the car or sitting down and writing music, it has always been there. It all started with my father who played guitar his whole life. I always remember him playing his guitar and thinking, WOW, this music thing is pretty cool…and the rest is history.

I got my first guitar on my ninth birthday and have been playing and singing ever since. I have played for 8 years now and I don’t find myself stopping anytime soon. I started performing about four years ago when my city invited me to play at their yearly event called Music in The Park. It was nerve racking and exciting to perform for people for the first time, but the experience and feeling is unexplainable. I have played at Music in the park for four summers in a row and the latest consisting of a full band and orchestrated show. That first Music in the Park event sparked a whole new adventure in my life.

Next, I auditioned and was a semi-finalist at the Minnesota State Fair and trained with a local talent agency where I have furthered my acting and modeling skills through classes. My adventure continued when I made a team of young artists who went to Los Angeles and competed in singing, modeling and acting. I took first place in the singing competition, second place in fashion print modeling, and top ten monolog and acting. Los Angeles introduced me to a music vocal coach and producer who I have worked with for the last six months on vocal training and producing my first two original songs.

When I look back at my life from a bad day at school or a good day with my friends, music has always been there. All the people I have met, skills I have gained, lessons I have learned and memories I have are irreplaceable and I would not trade them for the world. For me, music is a way of life. It is how I express myself and grow.
