Abby Grace Matthews

Hey guys!! My name is Abby Grace Matthews. I'm 16 years old and from Hazlehurst, Mississippi. It is so exciting to be a part of this amazing opportunity because I have loved to perform since I was very young. I began singing in my church. I started working on singing the National Anthem because my mom taught me that if I could perform the National Anthem well, it could open up doors for me. So, at the age of 10, I sang at my first minor league baseball game, for the Mississippi Braves. At the age of 11, I had the incredible opportunity to sing for the NBA team the Pelicans in New Orleans. Ever since, I have continued to sing at SEC baseball and basketball games, some with sold out crowds, and thousands of fans.

When I was 14, I broke my foot over Christmas break. I had just been given a ukulele and decided that since I couldn't do much over my break, I would teach myself how to play. It was love at first sight! I began playing it constantly. When I eventually got good enough, I created a YouTube channel to post the videos of me playing my uke. Sharing my music with people across the globe has been a lot of fun.

I love to sing modern pop music and Broadway. Last year, I had the opportunity to sing in Carnegie Hall for the 34th Annual Pops Gala in New York City. What an experience it was to perform with a lot of big name Broadway stars! It was awesome to sing with other kids who love Broadway just as much as I do. It was so much fun!

I love to hang out with my family and friends whenever I have free time, which isn't very often. hahaha. As a high school sophomore, I keep myself busy with school and musicals. Currently, I am in two musicals. I am playing Liza and an Indian in Peter Pan at a local theatre, and also playing my dream role as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. It is so exciting! So, as you can see, I love to perform anytime I get the opportunity. I am super excited to see where this journey will lead me!

I think two of my favorite artists would be Idina Menzel and Tori Kelly. They are both extremely talented and have an amazing power house type of voice. They also are able to connect with others through their music. That is what my hope is as well. Being able to connect with others, through my music, would be a dream come true.
